Wadjet is the matron goddess of ancient Lower Egypt and the Nile Delta. One of her forms, a rearing cobra (or uraeus) adorned the headdresses of Pharaohs and Queens. She is frequently paired with her sister Nekhbet, vulture goddess of Upper Egypt. Together, the “Two Ladies” as they are called represented a unified and divinely protected land.
