Character Portrait from a novel I’m writing called “The Dreaming Gates”–a young woman, in search of her family roots, takes on the mantle of apprentice to a shaman (i.e. a dream walker) to learn the skills to walk between worlds through the dreaming realms. Her initiation involves a very potent blend of entheogens, including psychoactive mushrooms. Her spirit dog companion, named Shadow, appears to her one day in the waking world and is her constant companion.
